TAMPA, Fla. – Maryville University baseball dropped its second consecutive game to the fifth-ranked University of Tampa on Saturday 10-6. The Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Spartans plated five runs in the final innings to take game two.

Jack Zebig started the game by reaching first base on a throwing error that pulled the first baseman off the base.
Michael Gould followed up with a single and
Zeb Roos drove in a run with a groundout to shortstop.
Jacob Hager doubled in a run a few batters later, followed by a sacrifice fly from
Stephen Randazzo and a
Matt Arnold RBI single to open up a 4-0 Maryville lead.

After allowing three in the first, freshman starter
Ben Gregory settled down over the next few frames, holding a 4-3 lead through three innings. The Saints tallied another run in the fourth on a Hager sacrifice fly after a successful double steal from Zebig and Gould.

The Spartans struck for another in the bottom of the fifth, but an
Elias Stevens solo home run to right field restored a one-run lead. Gregory was relieved in the top of the sixth, ending his college debut with eight strikeouts and three earned runs allowed over five innings.

Tampa went on to post three in the sixth and two in the eighth to set their bullpen up with a four-run lead heading into the ninth. Paul Sullivan wrapped up the victory with a multi-inning save for the Spartans.
