ST. LOUIS – Maryville University lost to the University of Central Missouri 8-7 on Tuesday afternoon after surrendering six runs in the final two innings.
Recap
Central Missouri jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after scoring a pair of runs off Maryville starter
Noah Leingang.
The Saints got those runs back in the top of the second, however, when
Michael Long and
Stephen Randazzo led off with walks to set the stage for RBI singles from
Andy Bunton and
Michael Gould.
Elias Stevens then walked after working the count full before a costly Mule error in the outfield allowed three runs to score.
Leingang was pulled after two innings of work, opening the door to scoreless two-inning outings from
Geo Camfield and
Philip Reinhardt. Still leading 5-2 in the top of the sixth, the Saints plated another run thanks to a pair of UCM errors.
Gould added another insurance run for his team in the eighth when he singled, stole second, and scored on an error by the pitcher.
Now down 7-2, the Mules used three in the eighth and three in the ninth to walk off the Saints with an 8-7 final score.
