Matt Martyn scored twice but the Maryville men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener at No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne. The Saints took a 1-0 lead through Martin four minutes into the game. The Bears used a run late in the first quarter to build a margin and kept the Saints at bay in a 19-4 decision.

Matt Martyn scored the first goal of the season as the Saints grabbed a 1-0 lead. He took a feed from
Justin Morgan and fired in the opening goal of 2023. The Bears tied the game one minute later and went on to take a 6-1 edge into the second quarter. The hosts scored to open the second before Martyn again fired in a goal. Lenoir-Rhyne settled for a 10-2 lead at halftime.

The Bears began the second half with six straight goals but the Saints closed the quarter with a burst. Maryville tallied two straight goals to end the third period.
Ethan Olson notched a goal with an assist from
Justin Simonson, and
Reid Usrey fired in the fourth goal of the game for the Saints.
