Stevens’ Four-RBI Day Lifts Saints Past Tritons 9-5

ST. LOUIS – Elias Stevens and Michael Gould combined for seven RBI in Maryville's 9-5 victory over the University of Missouri – St. Louis on Tuesday. Gould's first-inning home run got the Saints going early, and a sixth-inning three-run blast from Stevens ensured an eventual 9-5 Maryville win.

Recap
Noah Leingang took the mound to start the mid-week matchup for the Saints on Tuesday, throwing four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Michael Gould gave him an early lead in the first with a solo home run to left-center. In the third, Stevens picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly before an RBI single from Stephen Randazzo made it 3-0.

After Leingang's 1-2-3 top of the fourth, Matt Arnold welcomed the UMSL reliever with a leadoff walk and Nick Hofmann singled behind him. Arnold advanced to third on a Jack Zebig flyout and he came home to score on a sacrifice fly from Gould.

Ryan Hoshaw came in from the bullpen in the fifth and kept the Tritons scoreless with a pair of flyouts and a groundout. In the bottom half, Arnold drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in run number five.

In the sixth, UMSL tallied a pair of runs, but a two-run, opposite-field home run from Stevens restored a five-run lead. Two innings later, Gould and Stevens pushed the advantage to 9-2 with a fielder's choice and an RBI single.

The Tritons tried to make it interesting in the top of the eighth with a three-run bomb off the bat of Carson Holin, but Nick Schmidt got out of the inning with a pair of swinging strikeouts. In the ninth, UMSL put a runner in scoring position with one out, but Schmidt slammed the door shut with two more strikeouts to end a 9-5 Maryville win.
