Maryville Baseball Finishes Off Four-Game Sweep of No. 21 Drury

ST. LOUIS – Maryville University completed a four-game sweep of No. 21 Drury University on Sunday with a pair of wins. The Saints took game one 7-2 behind six strong innings from Jamie Young and won game two 6-5 after a clutch three-run home run from Elias Stevens in the sixth inning.

Game One Recap
Drury took an early first-inning lead on Maryville starter Jamie Young after a Wes Collins RBI single up the middle. Young settled in from there, however, keeping the Panthers quiet over the next five innings of work.

In the third inning, the Saints took a 3-1 lead when shortstop Jack Zebig singled with two runners on. The left fielder misplayed the ball, allowing all three runners to come home on the play.

Zeb Roos, Jacob Hager, and Matt Schuler all got on with no outs in the bottom of the fourth before Stephen Randazzo was hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Jackson Burrell then logged a pinch-hit RBI single and Andy Bunton brought in another run with an RBI groundout. Two more walks in the inning extended the lead to 7-1.

Young got the first two outs of the sixth, but a home run cut the lead to five. He immediately got the next hitter to ground out, ending his day with two earned runs allowed with six strikeouts over six innings of work.

Nick Schmidt was called on out of the bullpen in the top of the seventh and he wrapped up a 7-2 Maryville win with a strikeout and a double play to finish the game.

Game Two Recap
Drury took another lead in game two with an RBI single in the third inning. The Saints responded in the bottom of the fourth on a bases-loaded balk by the Panther pitcher.

Tied at one in the fifth, starting pitcher Ryan Louck continued to deal, retiring the visitors in order in the top half. In the bottom half, Michael Gould drove in a pair with a single to give his team the lead. Elias Stevens then stepped up a hammered a three-run shot to left field to give the Saints a commanding 6-1 advantage.

The Panthers attempted a comeback bid beginning in the seventh. They forced Pat Evers to go to the bullpen after scoring three runs and loading the bases. Ben Prywitch came in and got a sacrifice fly and a groundout to exit the frame with a 6-5 lead intact.

The redshirt junior from Chesterfield, Mo., recorded a pair of strikeouts in the top of the eighth and slammed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his second save of the year.
