Erie, Pa. – The Maryville men's lacrosse team battled No. 3 Mercyhurst on the road but the Saints had their three-game winning streak end via a 13-9 score line.
Justin Simonson scored two goals and had two assists as his four points topped the Saints.
Clayton Cerett and
Ethan Olson both tallied two goals apiece.

Mercyhurst recap
The Lakers scored the opening goal but Simonson drew the Saints level less than a minute later. Mercyhurst edged ahead but
Justin Morgan tied the game again at 2-2. The hosts scored the final three goals of the first quarter and opened the second with another 3-0 run. Olson collected a pass from Simonson to end the Mercyhurst run, and Simonson found the back of the net to pull the Saints to 8-4. However, the Lakers took a 10-4 lead at halftime.

Olson's second score of the day pulled the Saints to within 11-5 early in the third. Mercyhust's advantage stood at 12-5 before Maryville mounted a comeback.
Reid Usrey scored with seven minutes left in the third, and Cerett drew the Saints to 12-7 heading into the fourth. The Lakers pushed their edge back to 13-7. Cerett netted his second of the day to make it 13-8 with 6:50 to play. However, the Saints were unable to cut into the Mercyhurst lead any further until
Declan Mulholland scored in the waning seconds to make it a four-goal deficit.

The teams were tied on shots taken at 36-36 and Maryville forced 18 Mercyhurst turnovers. The Saints had an advantage in clears as they went 14-of-15, while Mercyhurst was 16-of-19.
