Saints Take Game Two Over No. 20 UIS Behind 12-Run Outburst

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After losing game one, Maryville University Baseball bounced back with a 12-4 victory over the University of Illinois Springfield on Friday afternoon. Michael Gould opened the floodgates in the first inning with a two-run home run, and Elias Stevens plated four runs while getting on base three times.

Game One Recap
Illinois Springfield set the Saints down in order in the top of the first and scored the first run of the game after three consecutive walks and a fielder's choice. They added five more in the second on three hits including a grand slam.

Now trailing 7-0 in the top of the seventh, Camden Ruby collected his second double of the day with a shot to left field and advanced to third on a groundout. Shortstop Jack Zebig stepped in and brought the runner in to cut the deficit to six.

Maryville picked up one more run in the ninth on an Elias Stevens sacrifice fly, but the Prairie Stars wrapped up the game from there with a 7-2 final.

Gould later doubled to lead off the second and came in to score on a Stevens RBI single to left. Matt Schuler walked in the next at-bat, and both runners came home on Andy Bunton's RBI double to right. Ruby followed up with his third double of the afternoon to extend the lead to 6-0.

After two scoreless to begin his start, Jacob Kroeger gave up a run in the bottom of the third after consecutive doubles. However, the offense got two back in the top of the fourth on a two-RBI single from Stevens to regain a seven-run lead.

Kroeger worked out of another jam without giving up a run in the fourth, ending his day with four innings pitched. He went on to pick up his second win of the season with one earned allowed, four hits, and three strikeouts.

UIS began putting together a comeback bid with two runs in the fifth and sixth, but the offense came out in the seventh and put up four runs on two hits.

Ben Prywitch was called in during the sixth with two runners on and two outs. He got the first batter he faced to fly out and followed up with a scoreless seventh to close the door on a 12-4 win.
