Elias Stevens broke the Maryville baseball career home run record on Saturday with a home run in each game of a doubleheader split with Truman State University. The senior from Ballwin, Mo., surpasses
Joey Polak's previous record of 31 set in 2022. Â

Game One Recap
A pair of solo home runs in the third inning put Truman State University up 2-0 early in the game. The Bulldogs starting pitcher Holden Missey kept the Saints bats silent until the bottom of the sixth inning.

With two outs in the sixth,
Elias Stevens stepped to the plate and smoked his 31
st career home run to cut the lead in half. The home run tied current Maryville Assistant Baseball Coach
Joey Polak's career record after he hit 31 in two seasons for the Saints.

The Bulldogs tacked on five more in the seventh on five hits and one error. Maryville put together a comeback in the seventh, however, scoring runs on RBI from
Jack Zebig,
Michael Gould, and a two-RBI double from Stevens.

Truman State made a pitching change to get the final out, with Justin Maloney picking up his first save of the season with a strikeout to end a 7-5 final.

Game Two Recap
Again, the Bulldogs got out to an early lead, scoring three in the first inning. Maryville retaliated quickly with four in the bottom half on two hits and two errors.

Starting pitcher
Jamie Young settled in from there, not allowing another run to score in his five innings of work. He went on to finish the day three earned, six hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

In the fourth, the Saints took advantage of Young's strong outing with five more runs on three hits. The inning was highlighted by Stevens' mammoth two-run home run to center field, making him the program's new career home run record holder with 32.

Still ahead 9-3 heading into the fifth, Maryville continued to pour it on in an eight-run fifth inning.
Cliff Vickers capped off the frame with a grand slam to right field for his first home run of the 2023 campaign.
