William Jewell Takes Two from Maryville Baseball on Saturday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Maryville University dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader to William Jewell College. The Saints surrendered a pair of late-inning leads to the Cardinals to drop to 17-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Game One Recap
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the top of the second inning on Maryville starting pitcher Ben Gregory. The first-year student from Granger, Ind., found a groove after that, allowing just one run with eight strikeouts and three hits over six innings.

Camden Ruby tied the game with a single up the middle in the second inning to bring home Zeb Roos. In the third, Elias Stevens gave his team their first lead of the afternoon with an RBI double before Stephen Randazoo homered in the fourth to make it 3-1.

With their backs against the wall in the top of the seventh, Alex Epp singled in a pair of runners to tie the game. He later scored after a wild pitch and a single to right.

Maryville gave themselves a chance to win in the bottom half of the seventh with two runners on and one out. Caden Wanless worked out of the jam, however, getting a 5-3 double play to earn his third save of the year.
