ST. LOUIS – Jamie Young and Michael Gould were announced to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team on Tuesday afternoon. Both Maryville baseball student-athletes earn the award for the first time in their careers.
 
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.
 
Young, an Exercise Science major, posted a 3.77 GPA in the classroom this semester while leading the Maryville pitching staff on the mound. The senior from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, posted a team-low 3.68 ERA with seven wins, one complete game, and 50 strikeouts in 66 innings. In his last outing, Young went seven innings of work, allowing one run to pick up a win over the University of Illinois Springfield in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament.
 
Gould joins him on the list after a career year at the plate. The Sport Business Management major had a 3.57 GPA while breaking the single-season school record for hits (85), total bases (138), and batting average in the school's DII era. The left fielder also earned All-GLVC First Team honors after finishing second in the GLVC in RBI (65) and third in hits.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 7.
