Maryville Baseball Earns First National Ranking in Program History

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Maryville University baseball received a spot in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll for the first time in program history on Wednesday. The Saints were ranked 25th after receiving votes on multiple polls throughout the 2023 season.
 
Maryville earned 38 votes in the final poll of the NCBWA regular season, finishing seven points shy of Azusa Pacific. The Great Lakes Valley Conference also had Quincy University earn a spot at six and the University of Illinois Springfield at 16.
 
Maryville went 34-18 overall in 2023 and took third in the GLVC regular season with a 21-11 record in conference play. The Saints won a pair of games over the 16th-ranked University of Illinois Springfield and William Jewell College in the GLVC Tournament after dropping game one to Drury University. They were eliminated by sixth-ranked Quincy on Saturday with a 12-8 final.
 
UIS will play host to one of the NCAA Midwest Region brackets this weekend, with the Saints making their way to Springfield, Ill., alongside Ashland University and the University of Indianapolis. The regional opener versus Ashland is on Thursday, May 18, at 2 p.m.
