Trace Berggren's clutch three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth sent the Saints to a 5-4 win over Illinois Springfield before dropping game two to Indianapolis to end their NCAA Regional run.
UIS Recap
Maryville starter
Ryan Louck worked a pair of scoreless innings to start the first game on Saturday but ran into trouble in the top of the third. UIS plated three runs on two hits and two walks to open an early lead.
The Saints cut into the lead in the bottom half of the third.
Stephen Randazzo and
Andy Bunton got on with one out and
Jack Zebig brought in a run with a double. In the next at-bat,
Michael Gould cut the deficit to one with a sacrifice fly to left.
The score remained 3-2 until a pair of errors led to a run scoring for the Prairie Stars in the top of the fifth. UIS starter Adam Brouwer continued to keep the Saint hitters at bay until the bottom of the eighth.
Gould walked to lead off the inning and a two-out single from
Jacob Hager brought in
Trace Berggren. Berggren received the 2-2 offering and hammered it over the right field wall for a dramatic go-ahead home run to put Maryville up 5-4.
Ben Gregory pitched the ninth for the Saints in his second inning of work and closed out his sixth win of the season with 2.1 scoreless and two strikeouts. The win moved the Saints into a rematch with the University of Indianapolis in Saturday's second game.

After holding the Saints scoreless in the top of the first, the Greyhounds scored four in the bottom half of the inning. UIndy jumped out to the lead on three hits and one Maryville error.
MU starter
Nick Schmidt settled in from there, holding Indianapolis quiet for the remainder of his 4.1 innings of work. The Saints cut into the lead with an RBI double with two strikes in the fifth from
Zeb Roos.
The Greyhounds tacked on seven more in the seventh and wrapped up an 11-1 win to eliminate the Saints from the NCAA Regional Tournament.

The Saints finish their season at 36-20 overall, taking third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season.
