No. 10 Maryville Men’s Soccer Defeats No. 6 Parkside 4-1 on Sunday

ST. LOUIS – Maryville men's soccer prevailed 4-1 on Sunday in a battle of top-10 teams against the sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Kelvin Mulinya scored two goals to lead the Saints while Tim Smith posted a goal and an assist.

Run of Play:
  • Maryville scored on its first shot on goal when Marcus Kalebo sent a ball across the middle to Tim Smith. Alone with one chasing defender, Smith put a shot between him and the goalie and into the lower left corner of the goal.
  • In the 33rd minute, Marcus Kalebo took a corner kick that deflected off a Ranger defender in the box and out to Kelvin Mulinya who buried his shot at the top of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
  • Yayo Mutombo ended the first with another good scoring chance after making a defender miss on a move in the box, but he sent his shot high over the crossbar.
  • Jimmy Doherty started the second half with a low shot that Parkside keeper Daniyal Rana turned away.
  • At 64:45, Luca Bartoni put his first shot on goal of the game but was denied. Mutombo followed up nine seconds later with a shot that missed right.
  • The Rangers got on the board in the 76th minute when they were awarded a free kick outside the Maryville goalie box. Julian Villalobos sent a short pass to Edgar Heredia Victoria who sent it past a sprawling Nick Hemann to cut the lead in half.
  • Mulinya responded three minutes later with his second goal of the game and another signature backflip, assisted by Smith.
  • Bartoni capped off a Saints win with his first goal of the season at 85:53 off an assist from freshman defender Shimon Hayun.
