St. Louis – The Maryville women's volleyball team cruised in the opening set but Quincy rallied to down the Saints 3-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday afternoon. The Hawks prevailed 15-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16. Ella Brinkmann paced the Saints with 12 kills, Grace Graham added 11 kills and Taylor Hasbrook tied for match high honors with 22 digs.
 
Quincy recap
The Saints hit .297 and held Quincy to just a .121 mark to ease to the win in the opening set. Up 5-4, Maryville reeled off four straight to build a cushion. Leslie Longanbach started the run with a kill, and Ella Brinkmann served up an ace. Caroline Glastetter notched a kill with Graham's termination of a ball leading to a 9-4 edge. The Saints took control of the contest with another 4-0 run and eventually a double-digit point win at 25-15.
 
Quincy edged ahead 3-2 and scored four straight points to start set two. The Saints chipped away at the deficit and closed back to 12-11 on a block by Brinkmann and Longanbach. However, the Hawks scored nine of the next 10 points to even the match. Set three saw 13 ties and seven lead changes. Neither team led by more than two points. At 16-all, Brinkmann had a kill and a QU error made it 18-16. The Hawks scored two straight but a Glastetter kill put Maryville back up 19-18. However, Quincy tallied four consecutive points to grab a 2-1 lead in sets.
 
In the fourth set, the Saints reeled off a 6-1 run to take the early lead. Brauman started with a kill, and Olivia Klump served an ace. Brinkmann pounded down a kill before QU scored. Brinkmann followed with another kill, and QU committed two straight errors. The Saints still took an 8-2 edge after a solo block by Longanbach. The Hawks tied the set at 8-all but committed an error for a 9-8 Maryville advantage. However, Quincy scored seven straight and 10 of the next 11 points to take control.
