Springfield, Mo. – For the first time in program history, the Maryville women's volleyball team defeated Drury in Springfield, Mo. The Saints had been 0-8 all-time on the road against the Lady Panthers, but Maryville ended the skid with a 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25 decision Friday evening.
Ella Brinkmann led the way with 17 kills, while
Hanna Dressing drilled down 13 kills while hitting .500.
Grace Graham chipped in 12 kills,
Taylor Hasbrook recorded a season-high 27 digs, and
Rachel Schipper distributed 23 assists.
Drury recap
Trailing 16-12, the Saints scored four straight to forge at 16-16 tie. The set was tied six more times, the last at 23-23. Brinkmann brought the Saints to set point, and
Makenna Brauman hammered home the winner at 25-23. Both offenses struggled in set two before Drury's late push tied the match at 1-1.
Maryville led for most of the third set until Drury tied the score at 20-all. Brinkmann put the Saints on top, and Dressing followed with her own kill. Drury committed two straight errors before Dressing capped the 5-0 run to take the set.
Drury looked poised to extend the match to a fifth set with a 22-15 lead in the fourth. Graham had a kill, DU committed an error, and
Lynsey Batson put down a ball. Two more Drury hitting errors pulled the Saints to 22-20. Maryville eventually tied the score at 23-23 on a block by Batson and Graham. Drury saved one match point, but Brinkmann's kill provided a second chance. Hasbrook ended the match with a service ace as the Saints ended their long skid at Drury.
