ST. LOUIS –
Mason Crew's three-point performance boosted Maryville men's soccer to a 4-0 win over Southwest Baptist University on Sunday. The Saints improved to 5-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Run of Play:
- Two minutes into the game, Marcus Kalebo sent a corner kick into the box that got knocked into the back of the net by an SBU player to put Maryville up 1-0.
- Kelvin Mulinya and Bryce Glisson both had good looks inside the 11th minute, both missing the net.
- At 12:32, Kalebo sent another ball into the box and found Mason Crew who slid and fired it home for a 2-0 Maryville lead.
- After several more good scoring chances, the Saints tallied their third of the first half when Quinn Connolly buried a shot off an assist from Crew at 34:53.
- Bearcat keeper Dawson Sozio made several outstanding saves in the second half, robbing Jimmy Doherty, Yayo Mutombo, Luca Bartoni, and Glisson of goals.
- Doherty broke through at 63:59, however, receiving a pass from Carl Norby and putting the ball into the high-right corner of the net.
- Maryville keeper Joey Wilson shut down three shots on goal in the final 10 minutes to secure a 4-0 shutout victory.
