Hogan Earns 100th Career Win, Saints Run Winning Streak to Five

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Head Men's Hockey Coach John Hogan collected his 100th career win over the weekend as his Saints extended their winning streak to five with a pair of wins over his alma mater the University of Arizona. Maryville currently sits as the sixth-ranked team in the country with an 18-8-1 record with seven games left in the regular season.

On Friday night against the Wildcats, TJ Prexler got the team going with his sixth goal of the season assisted by Colt Corpse and Jackson Zloty. Arizona tied it up on a Brody Selman goal at 14:15 in the second period.

Still tied seven minutes through the third period, Will Smith netted the eventual game-winner at 13:15 on feeds from Sam Edwards and Lucas Adams. Lucas Bain made 19 saves on 20 shots to earn a 2-1 win, his second of the season.

Smith kept the momentum going on Saturday and opened the scoring at 8:22 in the second period. Josh Olson followed up at 18:37 in the same frame to make it 2-0.

With roughly 10 minutes remaining in the third period, Bain came up with a penalty shot save after a crease penalty was called. His offense responded with a Campbell Mclean goal, his second point of the night, followed by another from Lucas Adams. Bain wrapped up a 4-1 win and a sweep of Arizona with a 31-save performance.

The sophomore goalie from London, Ontario, started the season on the M2 team but was recently promoted at the end of the first semester due to injuries. He got his first start against Grand Valley State University and secured his first shutout at the M1 level before earning the sweep over Arizona this weekend.

"This milestone is an overall program achievement," said Hogan. "We have been blessed with so many incredible student-athletes, coaches, staff, and volunteers who have been instrumental in our evolution over the last six seasons. These 100 wins represent all the hard work, time, passion, and successes of our incredible team and staff on and off the ice since 2018. We cannot wait to get started on the next 100 wins this upcoming weekend in Ohio."

Maryville travels to Athens, Ohio, this weekend to take on Ohio University in a top-10 matchup. The Bobcats are currently ranked seventh in the country. Puck drop on Friday and Saturday nights are at 7 p.m., at the Bird Arena.
