COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa. – It's a program milestone for the Maryville swimming teams, as they both captured their first victory in the
Savannah Erickson-era of Saints swim.

Both the men's and women's squads battled Iowa Western Community College and Barton Community College with the men's team picking up the victory over Barton 466-483, while the women beat IWCC 271.5-215.5.

The men's team was barely edged out by IWCC, dropping that bout 466-438 while the women's team fell 274-267 to Barton.

The Saint captured nine event victories, with
Ellie Williams being apart of four of them, including a perfect tie for the 100-yard freestyle event with her and Emily Walters of IWCC both hitting the wall at 1:01.33. Alongside her 100 free performance, Williams earned the top spot in the 200 free as well.

The quartet of
Lia Johnson,
Khadija Moustafa,
Isabelle Calabio and Williams captured two events on their own, winning the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Moustafa also earned a top spot in the 100-yard butterfly, while Calabio snagged first for the 200-yard IM.

Johnson, the final member of the group scored big points, winning the 100-yard backstroke.

On the men's side,
Xander Stone and
Devon Tallent both secured top finishes, with Stone sliding in first for the 100-yard backstroke – also a personal best – and Tallent claiming the 200 back. Tallent, while not finishing first, earned a new PR in the 200 free.

Outside of the event wins,
Dalton Rice secured a personal bests in the 50-free.
Xavier Harris set a new PR in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:22.82. Williams earned a new record in the 200 free and Moustafa earned one in the 200 fly.

The Saints begin GLVC action as they head to Kirksville, Mo. for a bout with the Truman State Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
