Saints Outpace Greyhounds, Capture 4-0 Victory

ST. LOUIS – The Saint was faster than the Greyhound on the Maryville Soccer Field as the No. 12-ranked Maryville women's soccer team controlled every aspect of the game against the visiting University of Indianapolis Greyhounds.

The Saints tallied 17 shots on the day, with nine heading towards the net, while the defense limited UIndy to just four shots, only one threatening. Four different Saints found the back of the net, with Tori Calvert leading Maryville in points with a goal and an assist on the day.

The victory marks the second in a row versus UIndy, the first time in program history that Maryville can claim back-to-back wins against Indianapolis. They have now outscored the Greyhounds 7-0 in their last two meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set pieces were the name of the game for the Saints as just seven minutes into the contest, a corner sent in by Calvert landed in the perfect spot for Sara Lawler to hammer it home to give the Saints an early lead.

The Greyhounds, already on their heels from the early goal, kept getting pushed, with the Saints tallying five more shots before a boom by Lotte Brands from just outside the box made it 2-0.

The match stayed one-sided from there with Nika Vemdal adding on her third goal of the season with just under five minutes to go in the first, marking back-to-back years the Saints have placed three between the posts in the first half against the Hounds.

A second-half goal by Tori Calvert marked the end of a contest that saw near unstoppable execution by the No. 12-ranked Saints.

DAWG TALK
Head Coach Lori Lawson on the win…
"Scoring off of set pieces, I think, is such a huge boost to the confidence and scoring in a variety of way, it really helps us feel good going into games."

Lawson on the defensive dominance of this team…
"Our defense has been one of the keys to our success the whole season. They don't often get the credit for it, but they keep us in games, and they did a good job of shutting down the offense early for UIndy and giving us a chance to put some in the back of the net."

Vemdal on the win…
"We knew what we had to do, we went out and did and we had a lot of fun doing it."
