#12 Women’s Soccer Secures 2-0 Shutout Versus Springfield

ST. LOUIS – The No. 12-ranked Maryville women's soccer team earned themselves yet another home victory, defeating the visiting Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars 2-0. The Saints' victory marked the 10th of the season and their fourth-straight win against UIS, moving the all-time series to 11-4 in favor of Maryville.

Second half dominance was the name of the contest with Maryville outshooting the Prairie Stars 15-2 with goals coming from Sara Lawler and Lotte Brands.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints, in an out of character moment, came out slow in the first half, giving up three shots within the first three minutes of play. The Saints continued rough and physical play in the first 45, with only four of their twelve shots being on goal.

Out of the break, the energy and fire the Saints are used to employing was on full display. Elsa Nilson-Hurtig laid down a pair of shots on frame, neither finding the mark before foul in the box set up Lawler for a PK which she nailed for the 1-0 advantage.

Just nine minutes, with the game in the Saints control, Brands hammered one from deep to make it 2-0. The Saints continued to pile on the offense as they ended the second half with 15 total shots with five corners.

UP NEXT
The No.12-ranked Saints will head to The Hawkeye State for a battle with the Upper Iowa Peacocks in Fayette, Iowa. Action on Oct. 25 is set for noon.
