Hammond, Ind. – At the Midwest Crossover Tournament, the Maryville volleyball team was handed a 3-0 defeat by unbeaten and No. 4 Ferris State but the Saints bounced back by hitting a season-high .344 in a sweep of Northwood in the night cap. FSU won 25-19, 25-23, 25-15 before the Saints won 25-10, 25-15, 25-18.

The Bulldogs scored six of the first seven points of the match to take the early lead. The Saints chipped away and used a 3-0 run to get closer.
Ella Domian and
Emma Hoing had back -to-back kills before Hoing and
Hanna Dressing had a block. Maryville went on a late 5-1 run to get to within five but FSU closed out the opener.

The Saints had their best hitting percentage in set two with a .250 mark while holding the Bulldogs to .190. Down 7-5, the Saints reeled off six consecutive points. Domian started the burst with a kill, and Hoing had two kills around an ace by
Taylor Hasbrook. Two FSU errors put the Saints on top 11-7. Maryville was still leading 19-14 before Ferris State tied the set at 19-all. The Saints forged ties two more times, and a Bulldog error made it 23-23. However, FSU scored two straight to go up 2-0.

In the third, the Saints were down but inched closer on a kill by
Lily Brown. A Bulldog error trimmed the gap down to 12-8 before FSU scored six of the next seven points to take command. Maryville used kills by Brown and
Ella Brinkmann and made a push in the middle. A kill by
Grace Graham followed by a block by Brown and Dressing made it 21-14 but the Saints never got any closer.

The Saints held a narrow 8-7 lead but exploded with one of their longest runs of the season. Maryville scored 12 straight points to roar to a 20-7 advantage. Hoing dominated with five kills and started the burst by hammering down a point. After two aces by
Rachel Schipper, Hoing capped the run with another kill. The Saints tacked on a 4-0 run and closed the set with a kill by Brown.

The Saints again moved to an 8-7 edge in the second set before tallying four consecutive points. Domian started the run, and NU committed two straight errors. Hoing and Dressing worked a block for a 12-7 margin. Maryville ripped off another 4-0 burst capped by a Brinkmann kill for an 18-10 cushion. The Saints scored the final three points for another double-digit set win.

Set three was close until the midway point when
Josey Wahlers had a kill, NU an error, and a kill by Hoing pushed the Saints ahead 19-14. Northwood scored a point but Maryville tallied three of the next four points to go up 22-16. Brinkmann and
Payton Mandac had back-to-back kills for match point before NU committed an error at match point.
