Elguezabal Serves Seven Aces as Saints Take Down No. 14 UMSL in Four Sets

St. Louis – On a night Taylor Hasbrook broke the Maryville volleyball career service aces record, the Saints recorded a season-high 16 aces to take down No. 14 Missouri-St. Louis 3-1. The Saints prevailed 25-18, 25-12, 18-25, 25-20. Hasbrook now holds the program mark with 131 career aces. Regina Elguezabal served a career-high seven aces to highlight the Maryville efforts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints were down 12-11 in the opener but scored three straight to take the lead. Up 14-13, Brinkmann and Ella Domian sandwiched kills around an UMSL error and went up 17-14. Maryville still held a 20-17 edge but reeled off four straight to take command. Lily Brown and Hanna Dressing had back-to-back kills. After a Brinkmann termination, an UMSL miscue gave the Saints set point, and Dressing ended the set.

Set two was tied at 3-3 but Maryville scored six of the next seven points. The Saints tacked on a 7-1 burst and went up by double digits at 16-6. UMSL got as close as 20-12 but the Saints scored the final five points of the set to go up 2-0. Maryville hit .360 in the set and served up six aces. The Saints were looking to sweep the Tritons but UMSL picked up its offense while the Saints had their lowest hitting mark of the night as UMSL took set three.

The fourth set saw UMSL build a 12-9 lead before the Saints roared back with seven consecutive points. An ace by Rachel Schipper started the run, and Emma Hoing added two kills, and an UMSL error made it 16-12. Leading by three, the Saints took over with another 6-0 spree. Hoing began the run before Elguezabal then served four straight aces. Dressing hammered down a kill for a 22-13 margin. The Tritons got as close as four but an error on match point ended the contest. Hoing ended the night with 15 kills
