#12 Saints Tally 10th Shutout in 2-0 Victory at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 12-ranked Maryville women's soccer team remains unblemished in the goals category for the 10th time this season and for the fourth time in as many games as they defeated the Lewis Flyers (3-11-1, 3-9-0) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in Romeoville, Ill.

The Saints (12-0-2, 11-0-1) have also tallied multiple goals in every game this season except for one, the 1-1 draw at McKendree on Oct. 11. The culprits of today's effort came from Elsa Nilson-Hurtig and Lexi Gentry, with Nilson-Hurtig's goal coming with some extra history behind it.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Facing a struggling Flyers squad, the Saints took the chance to establish themselves early as Sara Lawler challenged the keeper at the 5th minute of action, with Gentry and Maddie Dickerman also recording shots in that frame of play.

After an offensive reset for Maryville, Gentry placed the ball perfectly into the box for Nilson-Hurtig to put it home. It marked the eighth assist of the season for Gentry, bringing her within one of her total from a year prior, also putting her in a tie for fifth in the country in assists.

The Flyers responded with eight shots of their own in the first half, with Agnes Vilen scooping up five saves to keep the lead at one into halftime.

Out of the break, the defense was on lockdown alert as they limited the Flyers to just one shot on their home turf while adding on another goal, this coming off the foot of Gentry, her 20th of her career.

UP NEXT
The Saints will end the regular season at home as they celebrate their senior class with a pair of home bouts. They will battle Truman Sate on Friday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m. and then Quincy on the following Sunday at noon.
