#8 Women’s Soccer Secures GLVC Regular Season Title with 3-0 Rout of Truman

ST. LOUIS – Step one on the 2024 to-do list is complete for the No. 8-ranked Maryville women's soccer team as with their 3-0 win over the visiting Truman State Bulldogs, the Maryville Saints are the GLVC Regular Season champions. With that distinction, they earn the No. 1-seed in the upcoming GLVC tournament.

Three different dawgs found the back of the net, with Maddie Dickerman scoring her first goal of the year in the first half. Lexi Gentry added on in the second and the third.

Overall, on the day, the Saints ran supremely, giving up zero shots during the contest, while peppering the Bulldogs with 27, including 15 on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryville opened the scoring in the 16th minute, as Dickerman found the net off a precise pass from Lexi Gentry.

The Saints kept the pressure high, firing 12 shots in the first half and forcing Truman's goalkeeper into five saves to keep the score close heading into halftime.

In the second half, Maryville continued its offensive onslaught. Gentry doubled the lead in the 73rd minute, assisted by Vemdal and Elsa Nilson-Hurtig. Less than three minutes later, Vemdal added a goal of her own with help from Allison Estanich, putting the game firmly out of reach for the Bulldogs.

Goalkeeper Agnes Vilen anchored a steadfast defense, not facing a single shot on goal as the Saints recorded their 11th shutout of the season.

DAWG TALK
Head Coach Lori Lawson on the GLVC Regular Season title...
"It's one of things that we've been talking about all season. I think winning the regular season in a conference like this is something to be celebrated and it's something that we've really worked hard towards and it's been a vision of ours the whole season. It's something that we wanted to achieve, so [i'm] happy that we've gotten to celebrate that, but also recognize that there's a lot more work to be done and hopefully a lot more celebrating to do."

UP NEXT
The Saints will celebrate their seniors on Sunday versus Quincy at noon.
