How it Happened
The Saints used an 8-1 run to pull away from a 4-4 tie to build a 12-5 margin. The Bearcats chipped away and got as close as two points but back-to-back kills by
Lily Brown and
Ella Domian gave the Saints a margin for a 25-21 win. SBU posted its two highest hitting percentages in sets two and three to grab a 2-1 lead.
The Saints held a narrow lead for most of set four and took 21-17 lead. After an SBU error,
Grace Graham had a kill, and Brauman and
Hanna Dressing added a block for a 21-17 margin. The Bearcats got as close as 21-20 before the Saints reeled off four straight points to force a decisive fifth set.
Tied at 3-3 in the fifth, SBU committed two straight errors, and Domian had a kill. Graham and
Gracie Newell teamed up for a block and a 7-3 cushion. The Bearcats pulled to within 9-7 until the Saints scored three straight. After an SBU miscue,
Taylor Reynolds served an ace, and a Brauman kill made it 12-7. The Saints held the advantage, and another kill by Brauman closed out the match.
