JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Maryville men's soccer team made it 2-0 on its road-trip weekend after claiming a 2-1 victory in the program's first-ever meeting with the Lincoln University Blue Tigers.
All three goals of the contest were tallied via penalty kicks with
Alberto Di Pierri and
Mason Crew scoring for the boys in red.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Defense shined through the first ten with the first shot finally coming in the tenth minute by Crew. Strong midfield play by both sides, especially from the home Blue Tigers kept the offenses at bay.
The break finally came at the 37th minute where a foul in the box sent Di Pierri to the spot, with the Maryville captain converting.
After intermission, rough and tough play continued to plague both teams as the Saints coughed up their own in-the-box foul which sent a Blue Tiger to the line. Despite a diving effort by
Steen Nielsen, the home squad tied it up.
Like clockwork, the Blue Tigers suffered yet another foul for a pen, with Crew stepping to the marker this time.
