ST. LOUIS — This past weekend, the No. 9-ranked Maryville M1 men's hockey team battled against it's toughest opponent to date, battling the No 4-ranked Ohio Bobcats in their own Maryville Ice Hockey Center. The battle of the top-ten did not fall the Saints way, with the Bobcats winning the first contest 4-2 and the second 4-0.
On Friday, it was a close contest for the first half of the game, with the scored knotted at zero 30 minutes into the game. Unfortunately for the Saints, Ohio unleahsed an onslaught of offense late in the second period, sending four to the back of the net for the eventual 4-0 final score.
While Maryville was much better on Saturday, out shooting Ohio 35-31, Ohio made it count when needed outmatching the Saints winning by a score of 4-2. Maryville goalie
Lucas Bain was in net for both games.
"You don't know until you know" said Head Coach
John Hogan. "Our freshmen got their first real test of what a top 5 team in the country looks like. And our returners got a reminder of how hard its going to be to beat teams in March. [I have to] Give credit to Ohio – I think they'll be a top two team when all is said and done this season. But, to beat the good teams, every detail matters so that is the lesson will take into a well needed off week. Eight games in, we are pretty banged up so we will lick our wounds and be ready to go vs. Liberty next week."
