Mutumbo’s Multi-Goal Game Not Enough as #24 Saints Draw with Bulldogs

ST. LOUIS – Despite a scoreless first half, the Maryville soccer team scored twice in the second half but ultimately settled for a 2-2 draw against Truman State on Friday afternoon. The No. 24 Saints now sit at 9-4-4 on the season, with a shot at the GLVC regular-season title still within reach.

Sophomore Yayo Mutumbo was responsible for both Saints' goals, marking his first career multi-goal game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening 45 minutes saw balanced play, with Maryville leading 6-5 in shots at the break, though they picked up a pair of yellow cards in the process.

After halftime, the Saints quickly seized momentum. Mutumbo's early run led to his third goal of the season, giving Maryville a 1-0 lead.

Mutumbo wasn't finished, netting his second of the game in the 65th minute for a 2-0 lead. However, the Bulldogs responded with two quick goals, leveling the score before the 70th minute.

The Saints continued pressing, finishing with 18 shots in the second half alone, but they couldn't find the go-ahead goal.
