Saints Surge Past Quincy with Dominant Second-Half Display on Senior Day

ST. LOUIS – The No. 24-ranked Maryville men's soccer team secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Quincy University on Sunday after celebrating their senior class. The victory was fueled by a trio of second-half goals to cap off an impressive performance in their final regular season game.

Before the opening kickoff, the Saints celebrated their senior class that has brought the Saints plentiful success over the past season. Miguel Cobos, Mason Crew, Alberto Di Pierri, Jimmy Doherty, Bryce Glisson, Marcus Kalebo and Carl Norby were the seniors recognized in the ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints (10-4-4, 9-2-3 GLVC) opened the scoring in the 19th minute, when Sebastian Weitlaner found the net with an assist from Marcos Ayelo. The first half ended with Maryville holding a 1-0 lead, despite creating numerous opportunities with a 6-2 shot advantage.

Maryville's momentum continued in the second half as they pressed their attack. Alberto Di Pierri doubled the Saints' lead in the 71st minute, courtesy of a setup from Lukas Molander. Just six minutes later, Carl Norby added a third goal with a finish assisted by Mason Crew, putting the game out of reach for the Hawks. Norby's goal had some added meaning behind it as it was the first collegiate goal for the senior defenseman.

Omar Cllic rounded out the scoring for Maryville in the 80th minute with a goal assisted by Yayo Mutombo, pushing the Saints' lead to 4-0. Quincy managed a late response, breaking the shutout at the 87th minute.
