HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryville roared out of the gate to stun the host Rangers by scoring the opening 10 points of the contest. Anthony Holden splashed two 3-pointers on the first two possessions of the game. Lucas Burton hit back-to-back jumpers as the Saints staked themselves to a 10-0 three minutes into the game. It took Parkside more than four minutes to finally get on the scoreboard.

The Saints led by as many as 12 points in the first half. Henry Meyer sank a jumper for a 26-15 lead until UWP cut the deficit to three. Burton made two straight baskets and a bucket buy Luke Williams push the margin back to 32-23. The Saints held a 37-31 lead at intermission.

Early in the second half, Dewayne Vass knocked down a 3-pointer, and two Burton free throws rebuilt a double-digit advantage at 42-32. UWP got as close as 51-42 until the Saints tallied eight of the next nine point. Williams hit a trey, and Meyer converted a layup. A 3-pointer by Francisco Espinosa built a 59-43 edge with nine minutes to play. The Rangers got within eight points before Burton and Williams scored for a 63-51 cushion. The Saints put the game away when Holden drilled his fourth 3-pointer of the night, and Vass and Williams added buckets for the largest lead of the night at 70-54.

The Saints hit 8-of-17 from deep (47.1 percent) and the defense limited the Rangers to just 34.5 percent shooting from the field.
