LEBANON, ILL. – The Maryville men's basketball team put four players in double figures but opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 74-66 loss at McKendree Saturday.
Andre Klaver led the Saints with 14 points, while
Keyyaun Batchman added 12.
Lucas Burton and
Henry Meyer both chipped in 10 points apiece. The Maryville defense forced the Bearcats into 20 turnovers and was +11 in that department.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 8-5, the Saints surged ahead on the strength of a 10-0 run.
Keyyaun Batchman started the run with a 3-pointer, and
Anthony Holden's layup put Maryville on top. A
Lucas Burton bucket and a layup by Batchman followed, and another basket by Burton pushed the advantage to 16-8. The margin was 22-16 before the Bearcats tied the score at 22-all.
Andre Klaver tallied five straight points for Maryville. The Saints outscored McKendree 7-1 to go back up 34-27 and took a 34-32 lead at halftime.

The Bearcats opened the second half on a 9-2 burst to jump back into the lead. Batchman had a layup, and
Francisco Espinosa threw down a dunk to pull the Saints to within 41-40. McKendree made back-to-back 3-pointers to stretched its lead to 47-40.
Henry Meyer knocked down a triple to pull the Saints to within 53-49, and bucket by Burton kept the margin a four, 57-53, with 6:27 remaining. However, the Bearcats reeled off nine of the next 11 points to grab their largest lead of the day at 66-55.
