Wisconsin Dells, Wis. – Maryville men's basketball fell in its opening game of the 2024-25 season during a neutral site contest versus Northern Michigan. The Wildcats used a big second half to move past the Saints 78-59 in the Wisconsin Dells.
Keyyaun Batchman and
Lucas Burton both scored in double figures to pace the Maryville attack.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dewayne Vass scored on a layup for a 12-11 lead. After the Wildcats converted, Vass answered again inside as the Saints went up 14-13. NMU tallied six straight to jump ahead before
Andre Klaver knocked down a 3-pointer. The teams traded the lead late in the half and a Burton bucket put the Saints ahead 27-25. NMU inched back in front and
Henry Meyer's triple cut the gap to 31-30. The Wildcats scored the final seven points of the half to take a 38-30 edge into intermission.
NMU began the second half with a 7-0 run and went up by 45-30.
Luke Williams splashed in a 3-pointer to end the Maryville drought. The Wildcats used an 11-2 burst before the Saints responded with eight straight points. Batchman started the run with a layup, and
Trey Redd added another bucket. Williams scored a layup, and Batchman's jumper pulled the Saints to within 56-43. However, Maryville was unable to chop the deficit down to single digits as Northern Michigan closed out the victory. The Wildcats took advantage of 22 free throw attempts to just five for the Saints.
