QUINCY, ILL. –
Lucas Burton tallied a season-high 22 points as the Maryville men's basketball team overcame a 16-point deficit to defeat Saginaw Valley 87-73. The Saints had four players reach double-figures in scoring.
Keyyaun Batchman recorded 18 points to go along with eight assists, while
Dewayne Vass and
Luke Williams tallied 14 and 11 points, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryville trailed 35-16 with six minutes to play in the first half but roared back into the contest with eight straight points.
Anthony Holden started the run with a bucket, and
Lawrence Brazil III sank two free throws. Burton added a layup and
Trey Redd went coast-to-coast with for a bucket to cut the gap to single figures. Still down 39-31, the Saints closed the half on a 9-2 run. Burton hammered in a dunk, and Batchman converted a layup. Williams had a layup before back-to-back dunks by Redd and Burton. Batchman hit a late 3-pointer to pull the Saints to 41-40 at the break.

The teams traded the lead early in the second before the Saints went on a 10-0 run and turned a 51-49 deficit to a 59-51 lead. Batchman drained a 3-pointer and Burton threw down another dunk. After a Redd three-point play, Burton scored on a layup for the eight-point lead with 12:50 to play. Maryville's margin stood at four until the Saints tallied six straight points. Burton hit a jumper, Batchman had a layup, and a Vass bucket make it 71-61. Still up by double-digits, the Saints put the game out of reach with another 10 unanswered points. Burton scored inside, and Williams splashed in a triple. Batchman had a fastbreak layup before a trey by Williams put the game out of reach at 87-67 with 2:26 to play. The Saints shot nearly 56 percent in the second half to key the victory, as Burton hit 9-of-13 shots to lead the way.
