ST. LOUIS – The Maryville men's basketball team recorded its fourth straight victory with an 82-74 decision over Culver-Stockton.
Keyyaun Batchman led five Saints in double figures with 20 points, while
Lucas Burton recorded his first double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Lawrence Brazil III finished with 14 points, while
Luke Williams and
Dewayne Vass both tallied 11 points apiece. The Saints shot 54.2 percent in the games, including a scalding 63.3 percent (19-of-30) in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 40-39 lead. Batchman started the run with a jumper, and Williams scored on a layup. After Burton knocked down a jumper,
Trey Redd's layup put Maryville on top. The Saints stretched out their advantage on the heels of a 12-3 burst. Batchman had two buckets around a score from Burton. CSC hit a triple but Vass had back-to-back layups, and a Holden jumper was good for a 54-46 advantage.
Vass drilled a 3-pointer as Maryville grabbed a double-digit lead. After a Wildcats score, Brazil scored five straight points for the Saints. After two free throws by Williams, he splashed in a trey as the Saints took their largest lead of the game 67-53 with just under eight minutes to play. CSC made one late push but Brazil knocked down a triple. After another score by Brazil, Burton threw down a dunk in transition. A Brazil steal led to a Batchman layup as the Saints cruised to run their win streak to four. The Maryville defense limited the Wildcats to just 34.5 percent shooting after halftime. The game served as an exhibition game for Culver-Stockton.
