Zach Baker fired in five goals while
Reid Usrey tacked on a goal and three assists as the Maryville men's lacrosse team took down No. 18 Lewis 13-5 in the season opener. The contest was a non-conference matchup between the two teams picked to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season title.
Dylan Radke made 15 saves in the net to pace a stout defense against the Flyers.

The Saints jumped on top as
Colin Tobias scored 3:35 into the game for an early 1-0 lead. Baker fired in his first goal of the day, and Usrey scored 33 seconds later for a 3-0 margin after one quarter. The Flyers scored their first goal in the opening minute of the second quarter.
Ethan Olson answered for the Saints less than a minute later that sparked a 5-0 run.
Ben Mickett tallied before Baker netted twice.
Ben Foster scored late in the second as Maryville surged into halftime with an 8-1 advantage.

The teams traded goals in the third as Baker scored to make it 9-2. Â
Mitchell Kaye opened the scoring in the fourth, and Baker rocketed in his fifth of the day for an 11-2 cushion that put the contest away for Maryville.

The win over No. 18 Lewis is Maryville's first victory over a ranked team since beating No. 13 Rockhurst 11-8 March 13, 2021.
