Record-Setting Doubleheader for Saints Men's Volleyball in Sweep of Talladega

St. Louis –  It was a record setting doubleheader for the Maryville men's volleyball team as the Saints swept a pair of matches against Talladega College. In the first match, Maryville won 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 while hitting a program-record .494. Jacob Fischer tied the NCAA mark with 10 kills on 10 swings for a 1.000 hitting percentage. Makai Scott had the second-highest hitting percentage for at least 15 attempts in NCAA history when he hit .938 with 15 kills on 16 swings during match two of the Saints 25-6, 25-17, 25-7 sweep.
 
Match One
Talladega scored the first point of the match but the Saints reeled off seven straight. Victor Ganev led the way with three kills to fuel the run. Maryville had two separate 5-1 runs and eased to the win in set one. Set two was tied 6-6 before Maryville embarked on a 6-1 spree. Victor Ganev started the run with a kill, and Fischer kills provided a 12-7 edge. The margin grew to 17-9 after a kill and an ace by Cameron Chambers. The Tornadoes got as close as five points but a 5-1 burst put the set away. Maryville inched to a 12-9 lead midway through set three but blew the game open with 10 straight points.
 
Fischer matched the 1.000 hitting percentage record with at least 10 attempts by George Huhmann of Princeton on Feb. 18, 2017, and Jacob Schmiegelt of Lewis March 4, 2017.

Match Two
The Saints roared out of the gate by scoring nine of the first 10 points to take command. Talladega scored one point but Maryville added another spree of 10 consecutive points to put the opener away. Up 8-4 in the second set, five straight kills ballooned the margin to 13-4. Two different 5-1 runs provided the easy cushion as the Saints went up 2-0. The Saints started the third with five consecutive points. After the Tornadoes scored two straight, Maryville built a 7-2 lead and tacked on a 5-0 burst for a 12-3 margin. At 15-6, the Saints closed the match by scoring 10 of the last 11 to close out the doubleheader sweep.
