Softball Goes 1-1 on First Day of McKendree Tournament

O'FALLON, Ill. – Maryville University softball went 1-1 on the first day of the McKendree University Tournament on Friday afternoon. Addison Koth and Jenna Kosnoff both hit home runs in a 13-5 win over Kentucky Wesleyan University before an 11-5 loss to Purdue Northwest University in game two.

Kentucky Wesleyan jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but Addison Koth's two-run home run erased the deficit in the third. Later in the inning, Cailynn Gdowski singled in a run followed by a bases-clearing three-RBI double from Mandi Lenon to open a 6-2 lead. Taylor Duff added another RBI single before the inning was over to extend the lead to five.
 
A three-run home run in the fourth pulled the Panthers to within two, but Jenna Kosnoff answered with a solo home run in the fifth. A few batters later, Gdowksi doubled in another run and eventually scored on an error by the shortstop. Emily Corona then drove in two with a double to left-center.
 
KWU added one more before it was all said and done, falling to the Saints with a 13-8 final. Chayse Ramey picked up her third win of the season after four innings of work, four strikeouts, and five earned runs. Mercedes Delgado went 1.2 scoreless out of the bullpen and Emily Senjan closed the door in the seventh.

Game Two Recap
Maryville got a good start in the circle from freshman Ella Ludden in game two. She went three scoreless innings with three strikeouts when she left in the fourth. Maryville jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead through three innings on Kylie Swinney's sacrifice fly in the first, Brooklyn Moore's RBI double in the second, and three more runs in the third.
 
The Pride chipped away at the lead in the fourth with a trio of runs and still trailed 5-3 heading into their final three outs in the seventh. An error and a single with one out kicked off a rally that picked up eight runs and seven hits.
 
The Saints went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to fall to Purdue Northwest with an 11-5 final.

Maryville softball continues the McKendree Tournament on Saturday, March 2. They take on Missouri Western State University at noon before a 2:30 p.m., meeting with Davenport.
