St. Louis – With a victory over Fontbonne, the Maryville University men's volleyball team tied its program record for wins in a season with 19. The Saints prevailed over the Griffins 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 to match the win total by the 2022 squad. Makai Scott finished with 15 kills and a .520 hitting percentage, while Luke Kraft added 13 kills and hit .400 in the contest.
 
Fontbonne recap
The opening set was close and the Saints were clinging to a 15-14 lead. Scott hammered down a kill that ignited a 5-0 for Maryville. He added another before Joe Nicometo and David Fleischer tacked on kills. Fleischer had a solo block for a 20-14 Maryville edge. Fontbonne got as close as four points but a kill by Scott and a Nicometo ace closed out the set 25-18. The Saints hit .452 in the set which proved to be the difference.
 
Fontbonne led for most of set two until the Saints tied the score at 12-all. The Griffins again took a small lead and were up 20-18. Scott converted back-to-back kills to tie the set, and a Fontbonne error pushed the Saints ahead 21-20. The score was tied at 21-21 but Scott answered and a hitting error put the Saints on top 23-21. The teams traded points as a Fontbonne error handed the Saints the second set at 25-23.
 
Set three was another close affair and the visitors were up 13-12. Two straight Fontbonne errors inched the Saints up 14-13. The Griffins surged ahead to grab a 17-15 advantage. Kraft put down a kill, and a block by Cameron Chambers tied the score at 17-17. Still deadlocked at 19-all, the Saints took the lead on a Fontbonne service error. Scott drilled two more kills for a 22-19 cushion. Fontbonne came back to tie the score 23-23. AJ Robateau put down a kill before Kraft served an ace to end it 25-23.
 
Chambers finished with 30 assists and seven digs, while Zac Clark paced the defense with eight digs.
