Garcia Hits a Walk-Off Home Run to Help Saints to Split with Drury

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Isabella Garcia slugged a pinch-hit, two-out walk-off home run in the seventh inning of game one to help Maryville softball to a split with Drury University on Saturday. Chayse Ramey picked up a complete game victory in her sixth consecutive start to improve Maryville's record to 12-17 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Game One Recap
Maryville starting pitcher Chayse Ramey set the first six batters she faced down in order and got run support in the bottom of the second. A walk and an error set the stage for Brooklyn Moore's two-RBI triple to open up a 2-0 Saints lead.

Drury got a sacrifice fly in the top of the third to cut into the lead, and a Lauren Beier home run to left field in the fourth tied the game at two.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jenna Kosnoff singled, advanced to second on a groundout, and stole third to get into scoring position for Mandi Lenon. Lenon plated the run with an RBI groundout to right field to put her team back on top 3-2.

In the sixth, an error by the Saints allowed an unearned run to score to knot the game at three.

Ramey retired the side in the seventh to set up late-game heroics in the bottom of half of the final frame. Drury got the first two hitters in order when Isabella Garcia was called upon to pinch hit. The junior from Brookfield, Ill., got a pitch to her liking and drilled it over the left field fence for a walk-off solo home run.

Ramey picked up her 10th win of 2024 after seven innings, two earned runs, and six strikeouts.

The Panthers continued to pile up runs in the second, scoring seven runs on six hits and one error. The Saints were able to tight-rope out of more danger, however, stranding the bases loaded. In the third, Drury got six more runs on five hits and one error to extend the lead to 16-1.

Miranda Bondurant doubled home a run in the third to cut into the lead, but the visitors got two more runs in the fourth. Still trailing 18-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Addison Koth tripled home a pair of runs and Lenon singled home a run before being closed out with an 18-5 final.
