Forbeck Plays Hero in Game One, Saints Rout Bearcats in Game Two

ST. LOUIS – Tori Forbeck hit a walk-off double to help Maryville University past Southwest Baptist University in game one before the Saints took a 13-5 win in game two. Maryville improved its Great Lakes Valley Conference record to 6-2 and now sits 14-17 overall.

Game One Recap
Southwest Baptist jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-RBI single from Chloee Sams. Maryville tied the game in the bottom half with an RBI fielder's choice from Erin Wurst and a delayed steal that allowed Emily Corona to score from third.

Still tied 2-2 in the top of the third, Morgan Frossard hit a two-run home run that gave the Bearcats the lead once again. The Saints were up for the task in the bottom of the third, getting RBI from Erin Wurst and Mandi Lenon before a two-run single from Isabella Garcia. Chayse Ramey hit a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat and the eighth run of the game came home when Brooklyn Moore stole third and scored on a throwing error.

Maryville added a ninth run in the fifth, but surrendered three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to give SBU a 10-9 lead.

Down to the final three outs of the game, freshman Jenna Kosnoff singled and advanced to second on a groundout. Kylie Swinney then stepped in and hit an RBI single to right field to tie the game. Now on second base, Swinney came in to score when Tori Forbeck drilled a ground-rule double to give her team an 11-10 walk-off win.

SBU plated a pair in the second, but the Saints got those runs back on Kosnoff's RBI single to right and Swinney's bases-loaded walk in the bottom half.

The Bearcats continued to scratch away at the deficit, scoring one in the third and two in the fourth to pull the game to 8-5. Forbeck collected another RBI single for the ninth run in the bottom of the fourth, Melanie Nelson singled home a run, and Taylor Duff finished the scoring in the inning by driving in a pair with a single.
