INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville University bowling will take on the University of Nebraska to open the second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for the program. The Saints will play against the Cornhuskers beginning on Friday, April, 5, in Lansing, Mich.
Â
Lauren Russo's squad is coming off their first Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship in program history after fighting back from the loser's bracket and erasing early deficits to Lewis University in the semifinals and Newman University in the championship. In the best-of-seven tiebreaker against the Jets in the finals, the Saints made quick work of their rival with a 4-0 sweep.
Â
Last season in their first NCAA Regional appearance, the Saints opened with a 0-2 loss to Youngstown State University, picked up a 2-0 win over Carthage College, and fell again to the Penguins 1-2 to be eliminated. They rebounded with a national runner-up finish a few weeks later at the ITC Championships.
Â
Maryville went 86-48 in head-to-head contests in 2024, including a first-place finish at the Ebonite Valpo Bowing Classic to open the season in October and a trio of third-place finishes. Every Saint on the roster won a GLVC postseason award including the Player of the Year
Anna Maxwell, the Freshman of the Year
Morgan Brunner, and the Coach of the Year
Lauren Russo.
Natalie Heltne and
Laura Bartelt were selected to the All-GLVC First Team,
Brianna Schmidt to the second, and
Kaitlyn Cavender as an honorable mention.
