ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Maryville University dropped both games of a doubleheader at Lewis University on Saturday afternoon.
Chayse Ramey lost a shutout bid after surrendering a walk-off double in game one and the Saints lost game two with a 4-3 final score.

Game One Recap
Lewis starting pitcher Delaney Garden worked around a leadoff walk in the top of the first inning to keep the Saints off the board before
Chayse Ramey set down the side in order in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, a two-out double put Ramey in a jam, but she tight-roped out of danger with a strikeout.

Isabella Garcia led off the fourth with a single to left field, but the Flyers got a flyout, a caught stealing, and a strikeout to end the frame. In the bottom half, Ramey surrendered a pair of two-out walks but got a strikeout on a 10-pitch at bat to hold things steady a 0-0.

Both pitchers continued to battle it out through six-and-a-half scoreless innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Lewis put a pair of runners on with walks and got an RBI double from Gabi Nilles to win the game with a 1-0 final.

Ramey went 6.2 innings with two hits, one earned run, five walks, and seven strikeouts. Delaney Garden finished the complete-game win with three hits allowed and three strikeouts.

Game Two Recap
Maryville put a runner on base with one out in the top of the first inning on a Lewis error.
Isabella Garcia stepped in two batters later and hit a single to try to score the runner from second, but Payton Wuske threw her out at home from to end the inning.

The Flyers got a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Frafjord.
Addison Koth put that run back on the board with a leadoff solo home run in the top of the second to tie the game at one.

Lewis continued to add runs in the second, plating three on one hit and three free passes. The 4-1 lead was cut in half in the third when
Emily Corona scored on a
Taylor Duff first-pitch RBI single to left field.

The score held steady until the top of the fifth.
Cailynn Gdowski stole second with two outs in front of Garcia's walk to bring up Koth. Koth ripped a single to left with a 0-0 count to plate the run from second. Flyer starter Allie Wondrasek upheld the lead, however, with a pop-out to end the inning.

Still trailing 4-3 in the seventh,
Melanie Nelson pinch hit with one out and hit a double to represent the tying run. The next batter grounded out to shortstop and the first baseman threw Nelson out trying to make it to third on the play to end the game.
