ST. LOUIS – Maryville University softball dropped both games of a Thursday afternoon doubleheader to Truman State University. The Saints fell 3-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two at the Maryville Athletic Complex.
Game One Recap
Chayse Ramey got the ball in the circle in game one for Maryville and retired the first six batters she faced in order. The Bulldogs broke through in the third with Bre Klein's leadoff double and an RBI single from Lily Arndt.
The Saints got a couple of runners on base with one out in the bottom of the third after
Emily Corona and
Brooklyn Moore singled. A fielder's choice moved runners to first and second before TSU starter Kaylyn Jones worked out of the jam with a fly out to right.
In the fourth, Maryville got singles from
Erin Wurst and
Isabella Garcia with no outs to put runners on for
Kylie Swinney. Swinney moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt,
Jenna Kosnoff walked, and the Bulldogs worked out of the jam with a lineout double play to end the inning.
Truman State posted two more runs in the fifth to jump ahead 3-0. Madie Anderson came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the fifth and worked three scoreless innings to pick up her first save and a 3-0 win for her club.

Game Two Recap
The visitors got out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the second of game two after some command issues from the Maryville pitching staff. They added a fifth run in the top of the third on a solo home run from Cam Patterson to lead off the frame.
Wurst singled home the first two runs of the day for the Saints in the bottom of the third and advanced to second base on a throw home. TSU avoided any more damage with a hard lineout to left.
Emily Wood restored one of those runs in the fourth with an RBI triple into the left-center gap. The Saints did not respond until the bottom of the seventh when
Addison Koth drove in a run with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right.
Klein was called in to get the final two outs of the game for Truman State and she promptly worked a flyout and a groundout to end the threat and the game with a 6-3 final.
