Lewis Ends Men's Lacrosse Winning Streak at Three

Romeoville, Ill. – In a battle of the two teams picked to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference title, Lewis defeated No. 15 Maryville 20-12 Saturday afternoon. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by the Saints. Ben Foster and Ben Mickett both recorded hat tricks to lead the Maryville attack.

Lewis recap
Clayton Cerett fired in the game's opening goal just 21 seconds in, the second fastest score to open a game in program history for an early 1-0 lead. The Flyers tied the game but Cerett answered with a goal 37 seconds later. Lewis took its first lead at 2-1 but Ben Mickett tied the contest. The teams traded goals again, and Ben Foster's score with two seconds left in the opener made it 4-4. However, the Maryville offense was unable to dent the Lewis net in the second as the Flyers put up four goals to grab an 8-4 margin at intermission.

Lewis opened the third quarter with a score as the Saints deficit grew to 9-4. The Saints took advantage of a man-up situation and pulled back to 9-5. The Saints made it 10-6 but the Flyers tallied four straight to build a 14-6 advantage. Maryville snapped the Lewis run with four minutes left in the quarter on a score by Mickett. The Flyers took a 15-7 lead into the fourth. Connor Kvall and Ben Foster scored early to open the quarter but the Saints would not get any closer.
