Romeoville, Ill. – In a battle of the two teams picked to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference title, Lewis defeated No. 15 Maryville 20-12 Saturday afternoon. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by the Saints.

Clayton Cerett fired in the game's opening goal just 21 seconds in, the second fastest score to open a game in program history for an early 1-0 lead. The Flyers tied the game but Cerett answered with a goal 37 seconds later. Lewis took its first lead at 2-1 but
Ben Mickett tied the contest. The teams traded goals again, and
Ben Foster's score with two seconds left in the opener made it 4-4. However, the Maryville offense was unable to dent the Lewis net in the second as the Flyers put up four goals to grab an 8-4 margin at intermission.

Lewis opened the third quarter with a score as the Saints deficit grew to 9-4. The Saints took advantage of a man-up situation and pulled back to 9-5. The Saints made it 10-6 but the Flyers tallied four straight to build a 14-6 advantage. Maryville snapped the Lewis run with four minutes left in the quarter on a score by Mickett.
