BOLIVAR, Mo. – The early-season skid for Maryville men's soccer continues as they dropped their GLVC-opener to Southwest Baptist 1-0.
The Bearcats etched the first goal of the contest at the 12th minute and rode defensive prowess from that point to score a big victory. It is the first time in program history that the Saints have fallen to the Bearcats, dating back to 2014 with MU now holding a 7-1 series advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Just two minutes into the contest, the Saints had what ended up being one of their best scoring opportunities of the day, sadly negated by an offsides call. The Cats rebounded quickly, unleashing three shots, the third of which found the net. The Saints were then limited to just two shots in the first as they chased the equalizer.
That heavily sought after goal didn't come in the second period either, despite the Saints uptick in shots from two to eight. While volume increased, the Saints could not string together a quality attack and ended the game scoreless, their second-straight scoreless contest.
