Offense Impresses as Saints Score First Victory of the Season

ST. LOUIS – The Maryville men's soccer team has finally found the win column as they defeated the Rockhurst Hawks 4-2 on Friday afternoon. The victory marked not only the first win of the season, but the first of the Adam Hall-era of Saints soccer.

It was a day for Bryce Glisson as he netted a pair of goals in the bout. Mason Crew and Axton Anom both tallied their first goals of the year as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was shades of Southwest Baptist early as the Saints suffered a 1-0 deficit at the 16th minute of action. But after a red card on the Hawks limited them to ten men on the pitch, the tides turned in the Saints favor. Glisson, for the first time this season, found the back of the net at the 29th mark. The score held into the half as the Saints looked to finish the job in front of their home crowd.

The All-GLVC First Teamer from just a year ago in Crew was up next, as after a handball in the box, the crafty senior was up for a penalty. Crew hammered it left side and the Saints found their first lead of the ballgame. That energy kept going as just ten minutes later, Glisson found the net once again, with Crew coming in on the assist.

The Saints and Hawks traded goals at the 75th and 76th mark with Anom doing the job for the Saints.

COACHES CORNER
Hall on his first win at the helm…
"We've been there, but we've not been able to get over the finish line. I think this was hopefully a big day for the guys to hopefully put a good foundation down and move on from here."

Hall on bouncing back from the early goal…
"That was quite frustrating conceding [early] because I think we were all over them for the first fifteen, we controlled most of the play. I think it was maybe the first time it left our hands, where they got that free kick and scored from it… We have been talking about it all week, we're looking for the guys to attack more and I think that is going to be a major key to success this year."

UP NEXT
The Saints will hit the road as they travel to Liberty, Mo. for a road-GLVC bout with William Jewell. Maryville and the Cardinals will begin at 2:30 p.m.
