BOLIVAR, Mo. – It was a scoring spree for the Saints as the Maryville women's soccer team unleashed five goals in their GLVC-conference opening match at Southwest Baptist.
Â
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig had two of the goals, while
Lotte Brands,
Gina Catanzaro and
Ulrika Bredin also found the back of the net in the one-sided bout.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Just eight minutes after the starting whistle, the Saints had already found the back of the net.
Brooke Slater played a ball off the wing perfectly for Nilson-Hurtig to head it in the back of the net.
Â
That goal set the tone for the afternoon as the Saints continued to control possession, taking nine shots in the first half to SBU's one. Brands, just before the half ended added on with her second goal of the year.
Â
Out of the break, the Saints went on a rabid scoring pace, putting three balls in the net within a four-minute span.

COACHES CORNER
Head Coach Lori Lawson on the win to open GLVC play…
"I'm really proud of their effort. Sometimes it's hard to play a back-to-back, Friday, Sunday games. The legs are tired, playing on different surfaces but I was proud of how they responded, they came out ready to go today. It's always nice to get an early goal and then we can settle into the game and play our style. From start to finish they played really well and just had great energy and great attitude throughout the game.
Â
Lawson on Nilson-Hurtig's day…
"She's been really good at pulling pressure. She's been the player we've been going through a lot for our offense. She doesn't get those services and those balls without the great play of the players around her. I thought our midfield controlled play really well and we were able to go down the wings and the center, a lot of unpredictability in our attack makes her job easy."

UP NEXT
