Quincy, Ill. – In its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, the Maryville volleyball team challenged a standout Quincy squad but was edged out by narrow margins as the Hawks prevailed 25-12, 26-24 25-23.
Ella Domian led the Saints with nine kills, while
Taylor Hasbrook handled 19 digs.
Rachel Schipper dished out 14 assists, while
Josey Wahlers rejected a career-high six blocks.

Quincy recap
The Saints took a 5-4 lead on a Domian kill before the set was tied at 7-7. The Hawks reeled off eight straight points to surge ahead. Maryville had its lowest hitting percentage of the match in the opening set as Quincy took a 1-0 lead. The Saints built a 12-10 margin midway through the second set. Quincy edged in front and went up 18-16. Domian had a solo block to spark a 4-0 run.
Emma Hoing and
Hanna Dressing had a block, and another solo rejection by Dressing put the Saints on top. A QU error pushed Maryville ahead at 20-18 but the Hawks tied the score at 21-all. Maryville tied the set at 24-all but the Hawks tallied twice to take the set.

Quincy took the early lead in set three and went up 22-14. The Saints started to rally with three straight points. QU was still up 23-17 before a kill by
Grace Graham began a 6-0 burst that forced a 23-23 tie. However, the Hawks pushed across two straight points to close out the match.
