Career Performances from Brinkmann and Hasbrook Rally Saints in Five Sets at UIS

Springfield, Ill. – Behind career high performances from Ella Brinkmann and Taylor Hasbrook, Maryville volleyball rallied for a thrilling five-set victory at Illinois Springfield. The Saints prevailed via a reverse sweep 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-13, 17-15. Brinkmann had a career-high 24 kills to go along with a season-best 23 digs, while Hasbrook came up with a career-best 37 digs, tied for the ninth most in a single match in program history.

UIS recap
The Saints held leads late in both the first two sets but saw the Prairie Stars rally to grab the first two sets. Maryville led for the early portion of set three before UIS built a 21-18 lead. The hosts committed two straight errors before Hasbrook served an ace to tie the score. Ella Domian and Hanna Dressing had a block to put the Saints on top. Maryville had a set point, and Emma Hoing delivered a kill to pull to within 2-1.

UIS led set four 9-8 but the Saints stormed in front with a 6-1 burst. Domian tied the score and a service ace by Rachel Schipper gave Maryville the lead for good. The Saints stretched the margin to four and scored the last seven straight points to force a decisive fifth set.

In the finale, the Saints appeared to be in difficulty as UIS slowly built an 12-7 lead. Hoing pounded down a kill to spark a run of five consecutive points. After a Dressing kill, Brinkmann hammered down three straight kills. UIS edged in front and had match point. Makenna Brauman and Brinkmann posted consecutive kills to give Maryville its first match point. The Prairie Stars tied the score at 15-all but Taylor Reynolds tipped in a kill. The Saints capped the comeback on a Hoing kill at match point.
 
 
Olivia Klump also put up a career high in digs with 23. Maryville's two setters both recorded double-doubles in the match. Reynolds had 23 assists and 13 digs, while Rachel Schipper finished with 18 assists and 11 digs. Dressing tied her career best of eight blocks, while Domian set a new season high with 13 kills.
