Indianapolis – The Maryville volleyball team swept Kentucky Wesleyan but was tripped up by Tiffin on day one of the UIndy Invitational. The Saints beat the Panthers 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 but the Dragons prevailed 25-17, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23.

The Panthers scored the first point of the match before the Saints responded with seven straight.
Lily Brown started the run with a kill, and
Ella Brinkmann had two terminations for a six-point lead. KWC got as close as 9-4 but Brinkmann served two aces during a 4-0 burst. The Saints put the set away with six consecutive points. In set two, the Saints inched to an 11-8 edge before a 4-0 burst was good for a 15-8 margin. Another 4-0 stretch put the gap at 20-11 as the Saints took a 2-0 lead. Maryville scored five consecutive points to take the lead. KWC slowly rallied to build a 12-11 lead. The Saints tied the score at 14-14 then surged ahead with four straight points. Maryville stretched the run to 8-1 and closed the match with the final three points, capped by
Gracie Newell's kill. The Saints hit .242 while holding KWC to a .034 percentage.

The Dragons scored the first five points of the match before the Saints answered with four straight. Maryville trailed by as many as seven points before three straight points trimmed the margin to 20-17. However, Tiffin did not surrender another point to take the opener. Tiffin took an early lead in set two and held it before the Saints got to within three points on a TU miscue. Tiffin used a 6-0 run and closed out the set.

Maryville moved to a 7-5 edge until it ripped off seven unanswered points.
Emma Hoing started the burst with a kill, and
Hanna Dressing served back-to-back aces.
Leslie Longanbach and Hoing teamed up on a block, and a kill by Longanbach pushed the Saints on top 14-5. The Saints still led 20-12 but TU tallied seven straight. Tiffin went ahead 23-22 and were still up 25-24.
Ella Brinkmann tied the set with a kill, and Dressing earned a set point.
Lilly Stanton tipped in the kill for a 27-25 win. The Saints looked to extend the match and used a 3-0 run to snare an 8-6 advantage. A Stanton tip was good for a 13-11 lead but TU scored three straight. Maryville answered with three consecutive points and built a 17-15 cushion. The Dragons responded with a 4-0 run. A Hoing kill deadlocked the set at 22-22 but Tiffin outscored the Saints 3-1.
